Health Cert 2016
The Department has made one change to the way your animal health cert is completed.
The new cert no longer has 2 pages where herd owners fill in all tag numbers of milk producing animals. A printed list of the tag numbers of all your milk producing animals should be submitted. This pre-printed list must also be signed and dated.
A pre-printed list is available if you are registered with agfood.ie, ICBF, or otherwise you may use a pre-printed list from the Veterinary Practitioner nominated and approved to TB test the herd.
If the herdowner cannot access a pre-printed list, a legible handwritten list on a page signed, dated and supplied by the herdowner is still acceptable.
Farm Hazardous Waste
A farm hazardous waste collection day will run at Skibbereen Mart on Wednesday the 26th of October from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
This provides an excellent opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste in a manner that protects human health, livestock and the environment.
Fixed Milk Price Scheme
All suppliers will shortly receive an information pack on the 3rd Fixed Milk Price Scheme. This scheme will run from Jan 1st 2017 to December 31st 2019.
The price for the 3 year period at 3.6% butterfat and 3.3% protein is 30.71 cents per litre including Summer SCC, SDAS bonus and Vat @ 5.4%.
The scheme is open to every supplier and each supplier will be able to fix a minimum of 10% of their 2016 milk supply.
In the event of under subscription, there will be an allocation of between 10% and 20%. The option to take up this scheme is voluntary.
The Society's annual Agri Workshop will take place on Tuesday 6th of December in the West Cork Hotel Skibbereen.
This years event will incorporate a special focus on calf rearing.
More detail to follow later.
Dosing and Vaccination Guide
Included in this month's accounts is a dosing and vaccinations guide. The guide is designed to provide you with some information on the range of dosing products and vaccines supplied by Drinagh.
The guide is not a replacement for veterinary advice but instead aims to offer individual product information such as active ingredient, dose rate and withdrawal periods for different products.
The guide will also assist you with completing the animal remedy usage section of the Bord Bia farm book.
Milk Tank Temperature Monitor
Kingston Refrigeration Ltd has developed a temperature monitor for milk tanks. The sensor can be fitted to any milk tank and will alert the owner when the tank has not cooled or washed properly.
This is particularly useful when there is a problem with the tank cooling, when power is down or when the tank has not been turned on after the first milking.
The milk temperature monitor will then send an alert to your phone letting you know that something is wrong.
